15 Awesome Places to Eat or Drink in Wailuku, Maui

While Wailuku may be a small town, there is plenty of awesome food and drinks to try out! Nestled just 5 minutes from Kahului - Wailuku is home to the Maui Tropical Plantation, tons of charming shops and amazing restaurants near Market Street. Take a moment and discover our recommendations below, all of which are within walking distance to the Howzit Hostel.

Coffee Shops

#1 Wailuku Coffee Co.- Only a three minute walk from the hostel, this shop is a delicious spot for a caffeine pick-me-up! Try the Avocado & Bacon Bagel or smoothie bowl. If you’re a lucky winner of our Howzit Hostel trivia nights, you’ll get a gift card as a prize!

#2 Maui Coffee Attic- A little further past Market Street, you’ll find pastries and cozy couches at Maui Coffee Attic. Relax with an iced lavender latte and enjoy live music as you kickstart your weekend.

#3 Four Sisters Bakery- not a coffee shop, but a no-frills bakery that needs to be on your list! This family-owned place always has a line out the door of customers waiting for their butter rolls and malasadas.

#4 Maui Juice Co.- again, not a coffee shop, but this new spot has the BEST fresh pressed juice, along with health shots, kombucha, and more! All organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Sit Down Restaurants

#5 808 Market- Voted Best Lunch on Maui! Great pick for gourmet sandwiches and pupus (Hawaiian appetizers). Try the peanut butter s’mores, mahi mahi quinoa bowl, or shiitake beef melt.

#6 Empanada Lady- Where the Caribbean meets Maui!! Their empanadas & mouthwatering food are (of course) the star of the show, but they also have Open Mic nights, live music, and more in their gorgeous outdoor patio!

#7 Tasty Crust- Local diner offering American family favorites and also traditional Hawaiian dishes like loco moco at affordable prices. We definitely recommend the banana hotcakes!

#8 A Saigon Cafe- If you’re looking for Vietnamese cuisine in an intimate setting with waiters that love to joke around, look no further! 

#9 Sixty Two Marcket- Nope, not a typo— this sit-down restaurant is named after its chef. With everything from cannoli pancakes to taro burgers, Sixty Two Marcket offers outdoor seating and is a perfect place for brunch.

#10 Umi Maui- Sushi- steak, and seafood are served in this BYOB quaint space.

Takeaway Food

#11 HI Thai Food Truck- Authentic Thai food on Maui is only steps away from the Howzit Hostel! Big portions can be enjoyed at picnic tables under the banyan tree. 

#12 Farmacy- Solid option for vegans, vegetarians, and health-conscious customers, Farmacy has delicious smoothies, acai bowls, and quite possibly the best tofu sandwich.

#13 King’s Chinese BBQ- With selections of everything from cheeseburgers to saimin to shrimp fried rice, this hole-in-the-wall joint offers large plates of Chinese food and more at affordable prices.

Bars and Nightlife

#14 Esters Fair Project- Craft cocktails and small plates are served at this cozy tiki bar with an outside patio.

#15 Wai Bar- down on Market Street is where you can find a cocktail bar with karaoke nights and reggae nights with a live DJ!
